2008 Deer Hunt (A Bust)

I’m thinking that I might as well just called the “Hunting” season “Camping” season. Me and Tanner only saw 5 doe opening weekend. We actually saw more driving up to Vicki’s house that Sunday then we did all weekend. It was good weather for us so the camping aspect of the hunt was great.

On the way home from the hunt I joined the club of “Blow Outs”. In Cedar Fort I blew a tire on the trailer and had to show Ryan and Theron how fast I could get that bad boy changed on the side of the road. I’m no Jimmy Johnson pit crew, but it was plenty fast. (It had to be…The truck was expired and I didn’t want a sherrif showing up)

Between the Elk hunt and the Deer hunt there were 4 tires blown:
Ryan & Roger: 4-Wheeler Trailer — Blown tire on the way up to the Elk Hunt
Jason: Horse Trailer — Blown tire on the way home from the Elk Hunt
Jon: Chevy Truck — Blown tire on the way out to the Deer Hunt
Tyler: Camper Trailer — Blown tire on the way home from the Deer hunt.

There is always next year.

Home from the “hunt”

Ok, so I’ll just lay it out there right now.  We didn’t get an elk this year, but it was a blast spending time with the family up there.  Taylor and Tanner loved to play with their cousins and they had Mitchell sleep in the trailer with us.  Something about having a furnace up in the mountains to keep me at a warm 76 degrees all night is makes the hunt even better.

There aren’t to many years that we get skunked on opening weekend, but this was one of those years.  There were 6 spike tags and none of us even got a shot at a spike.  Opening morning Taylor, Tanner and myself saw some awesome bulls.  I thought I had video of them only to find out I’m an idiot and don’t know how to use the camera.  The boys loved seeing the big bulls and Taylor kept asking me “Why don’t you shoot em”  Funny kid I tell ya.  Once I explained that I can only shoot the ones that are spikes he still thought I should shoot the big bulls.  He and Tanner both did an awesome job at hiking around opening morning.  Every time they started talking about being cold we just started hiking again…They learned not to tell me they were cold.

 Opening Morning

It never snowed on us at camp, but up top it was snowing pretty good at times.  The hand warmers on the 4-wheeler really came in handy when we rode from “Camp Fire Hill” back to camp by the lake.  It was snowing and nobody could really see out of their goggles…but at least my hands were warm.

Overall it was a great hunt and I can’t wait for the next one with the fam.  I believe we are all heading out west for the deer hunt.  Better fill up the propane tanks!!!

Elk Hunt 2008

Alright hunters and non hunters alike. My favorite hunt of the year is coming up this weekend and I can’t wait. I feel like I’m already out of time to prepare for it because I have such a busy week leading up to the hunt. Last year was Tanner’s first hunt with me and he is my good luck charm. I will be taking my nephew Taylor up this year as well as Tanner. We can’t possibly get as lucky as we did last year and get one opening morning so I’m sure there will be a lot more hiking. Hopefully we will be as successful this year.

Here is a slide show of the hunt from last year.

We are heading back up to Currant Creek Friday morning and the weather shows moisture…Here we go again with the snow!!!

10 Year Anniversary

Ok, so I have come to the realization that I’m starting to get older.  I woke up on Aug 28th and realized that it had been 10 years since the day I married Julie.  I’m blessed with a very patient wife who has put up with more crap than she deserves. (She deserved a little of it)  I decided that it was about time to reward her for being such a wonderful wife.   Here is what we did for our 10th anniversary

1st things first “A Brand New Car”…Well not really but I’ve always loved the Price is Right so I had to use the phrase.  We bought a 2007 Suburban off of Ebay (2nd vehicle purchased on ebay) and flew down to California to pick it up.

2007 Suburban

I had spoken to the seller about 10 times on the phone and didn’t know quite what to expect so we landed in Burbank a little nervous.  Henry (seller) picked us up at the airport in the Burb and we headed down the road to the owner’s house.  Her husband has just passed away and had no need for the surburban any more.  They were an extremely nice Turkish family that treated us like a king an queen when we arrived.  They had Turkish cofee, Danishes, candy and snacks all ready for us.  We hung out in the backyard and took care of the paperwork and bid them farewell.

Later that night (9/29/2008) we went down to Angels stadium to watch the Angels play the Rangers.  It was a beast trying to get down there because traffic was horrible.  It took almost 2 hours to drive what usually takes 45 minutes.

"Proof" = too cheap to pay for photo
(Notice the Gray Shirt and Red Hat…it is important)

The game was awesome.  I missed seeing them play the Yanks by 1 week which would have been even better.  We were sitting down the right field line on the second row.  Well in the 6th inning Garret Anderson smashed a HR our way…Well, Lets see the video first.
Get the Flash Player to see this player.

Oh Baby, thats right.  I got the HR ball.  It flew over my head and hit the guy behind me in the chest and fell to the ground.  There was a minor scrum for the ball but I came out victorius.  I paused the video as I come up with the ball…Hard to see but that is me.

Once the excitement of the game was over we headed to Six Flags the next day…Long line created for a very long day.  We went on Tatsu twice, Viper once and X2 once.  That took almost 7 hours.  The rides were awesome, but WOW the lines sucked.

On our way home we stayed in Vegas…It just isn’t as much fun as it used to be so there isn’t much to write about.  Overall the vacation was a blast with the highlight being the Angels game.  Here is to another 10 years.

Found a Camera

Tanner found a camera at the BYU UCLA Game on 9/13/2008. I have posted it on KSL as well as on this site (because I get so many hits). Check it out here.
